Govardhan Pooja, also known as Annakut or Annakoot, is a significant Hindu festival that falls the day after Diwali. It commemorates the lifting of Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna to protect the residents of Vrindavan from torrential rains sent by Lord Indra, the god of rain and storms. This event symbolizes the importance of faith, devotion, and the humility of worshipping nature and the divine over superficial powers.
On this day, devotees create elaborate food offerings that resemble the shape of Govardhan Hill and present them to Lord Krishna as an expression of gratitude and devotion. The ritual represents sustenance, abundance, and the divine protection provided by Krishna. Celebrations often include prayers, traditional songs, and community feasting, emphasizing the value of collective spirit and harmony.
